Research shows adherence to treatment for HIV and other diseases was higher for patients using HIV-specialty pharmacies than for those using retail, according to a statement by Walgreens, which conducted the study. The company found that its patients with HIV who took drugs for hypertension or high cholesterol were more adherent to all their medications if they used its HIV-specialty pharmacies. In a separate study, the company found the same was true of its HIV-positive patients with serious mental illness.
