It's funny how GMHC had past experiences with Ron Johnson to hire someone more corrupted than him... Shame,Shame,Shame
There is no business like AIDS business, we sang in 1998 at a zap at a GMHC fundraiser when GMHC supported Names Reporting. Sorry, GMHC sold out its clients and the community years and years ago. THis is nothing new.
Again I see selling out to the mainstream. What has happened to real activists? Government lies, politician lie, business lies, now our gay leader are lying . Whats next?
Tom Viola says: "But I am now tired of being treated shabbily be some who have been charged to provide people with AIDS with services." I would add to that. GMHC is not merely charged with providing services. It has elbowed it's way past other providers, and has acted as a self-appointed voice of PWAs in New York City. Their advocacy process has never been open, and very often other organizations or individuals have found themselves shut out of rooms that the GMHC quietly enters. The same lack of transparency that Tom Viola deplores in GMHC's service planning also exists in their lobbying efforts, and in their influence on State and City AIDS policy. Nor will this lack of tranparency stop. It's bred in the bone with these folks.
Tom & Larry: ACT-UP Shreveport & Philadelphia Center thank you on behalf of GMHC's clients. Robert Darrow Shreveport
Marcelo Maia
Just a correction on the first paragraph "Marcelo Maia, a member of the board of directors of New York's Gay Men's Health Crisis" . My name is Marcelo Maia and I chair GMHC's Consumer Advisory Board (CAB). The CAB represents actual GMHC clients, volunteers, staff and community. I'm not a member of the Board of Directors.
