Another great resource for learning about Callen is Matthew Jones's beautiful book "Love Don't Need a Reason: The Life and Music of Michael Callen" (2020). More oriented to the music than Duberman's writing.

I am thrilled that these recordings will be released! I have also written a definitive book about Michael Callen's life and music, based on several years of archival and oral history research with Callen's friends, family, and fellow musicians. It's called Love Don't Need a Reason: The Life and Music of Michael Callen, and it's available through Punctum Books.
