By this statement, it's clear Phillip Lee is projecting. He obviously was or is (closeted) a promiscuous gay man and feel guilty for is role in HIV. It's almost 2012 and everyone knows (admitting or not) people who generalize and stereotype do so out of guilt and shame.

Two words: Roy Ashburn. Not so ironically, a Republican lawmaker from, wait for it, Bakersfield, CA who had a history of voting against gay rights (and one would presume, anti-HIV). Only a DUI in a state owned vehicle after hitting the gay bars did he come out. Two more words: Larry Craig. Pretty much everyone not living under a rock knows this guy. But suffice it to say, this knucklehead voted a straight 'family values' agenda while cruising for hot mtm action. What an complete adam henry. Now in my opinion, it is a person's right to be discrete, be in, be out and/or be whoever they want to be. But the imposition of one's beliefs and/or values upon my life is unacceptable. To make such imposition yet be living a secret life, is pretty hysterical. This "pastor" is no different. If a newspaper wants to print his crap, go crazy. It only illuminates his malarkey such that it's translucent if not transparent. And it gives us the opportunity to let him, and his ilk, know what a complete joke they are. And we're laughing at them.

Given Pastor Lee, in living "Life" is most obviously indeed limited to "Religious Dogma". Rather than facts on "Human" a/k/a "Homosapien" behavior. Perhaps by putting in this way, shall enlighten him. Fact remains: Man has been sleeping with Man, since Bruce moved into Adam & Eve's neighbor. Same of course, being applicable as with Jane to Eve. And shall indeed continue until their last day. Really, are "Bath Houses" limited to that of Men? Roman "History" alone, is trusted, responds to the latter. In need of comic relief, given Pastor Lee's sad and thus pathetic existent - So well established via the Harold to Michael quote. "GAYS" are forever first. Be it the Arts, Fashion Vogue, etc., etc., and thus, sadly indeed "AIDS" Pastor Lee, simply: Get over yourself / Deal with it. Most respectfully, Marc Tosca - San Francisco

your statements reveal you to be suffering from internalized homophobia at best, outright lying and disseminating falsehoods at worst. You are your own worst enemy. Question: What were YOU doing at a bath house? preaching?

In regard to Mr. Lee's ignorance, "Tragically, the reality and threat of AIDS has not stopped men from engaging in unprotected sex and the continued risk-taking by many does not appear to result from a lack of awareness..." You are not correct here Mr. Lee. I can tell you that HIV- men know next to nothing about the progress that has been made in HIV prevention and treatment, as well as the ways to lessen the risk of having the disease, especially those men who are young and/or closeted in their homosexuality. Each of us is responsible for our own sense of morality and I can tell you by the continuing high rate of pregnancy in the "straight" community among teenagers, that the straight family unit and the church in total has failed to stem the tide of sexual intercourse. We had a woman running for Vice President who was proud of the fact that her teenage daughter was pregnant and planned to marry the father and keep the child. Anti-abortionists have used scare tactics instead of education and love to convince teenagers and adults not to practice sex without benefit of marriage but have failed on that and another front. Marriage has not stemmed the tide of rampant divorce in the straight community, nor lessened domestic abuse or child molestation rates. In fact, the straight community has tried to encapsulate sexual abuses with shame, denial and keeping the truth from the authorities. Examples that come to mind of the Sandusky case, the Catholic church case and so many others that it has become commonplace. Sex is a primal urge, no less than eating or breathing...PERIOD. And like eating and breathing sometimes sex results in death. What we are facing is a virus, much like the plague that wiped out 2/3 of Europe's population. The HIV virus was almost exclusively among HETEROSEXUALS in Africa before it was brought to Haiti and "exported" to the U.S. by bi-sexual and homosexual men. So to you Mr. Lee I say, clean up your adopted house of heterosexuality before you pontificate to others and before you spread information that is either false or incomplete. While we all have our crosses to bear, homosexuality is no less nor no more than heterosexuality in need of safeguards to protect all of God's earthly creations.

WTF Brian? Why are you in the bathhouses?! LMAO, for the same reason "those people" are. It must be difficult to lie and hide who you truly are...but to be judgemental of those who are true to themselves, THAT is sad and horrifying.

Not only do I disagree with "the pastor" but with Brian as well. To lump all gay men together as bathhouse queens is ignorant at best, and intellectually dishonest at worst. It might also be productive to examine what kind of societal and religious pressures contribute to the "sexual acting out" that one might find at a bathhouse. To Philip Lee, to quote Harold to Michael: "You are a sad and pathetic man. You're a homosexual and you don't want to be. But there is nothing you can do to change it. Not all your prayers to your God, not all the analysis you can buy in all the years you have left to live. You may very well one day be able to know a heterosexual life if you want it desperately enough - if you pursue it with the fervor with which you annihilate - but you will always be homosexual as well. Always, Michael. Always. Until the day you die."
