As a pozling in the trenches, let me let you know that nothing has changed, so far. The guys are still out there trying to get meds: no insurance, no medicare, no money, no job equals to no car, no food, no roof over their heads, jail time. They're the homeless that somehow always appear to be clean, well put together and ready to have a smile on their faces! They beg, borrow, and steal (food!) to survive day to day. They're the ones who clean the toilets at your local quick-shop-gas station for five dollars and a beer--forget the five dollars, and just take a six pack. Whoever thinks that hiv'ers are criminals, better think again! So much maligned at social services agencies, especially when gay! The hatred towards hiv gay men is felt everywhere, even within our very own gay community! Show what we go through: the pain, the suffering, the isolationism, the degeneration of the body--Herve Guibert's comes to mind as an excellent video to scare the wits out of any high schooler! Don't forget to show how easy it is for practitioners to refuse us treatment--that would be a nice 60 Minutes undercover story! Last ditch efforts to save ourselves from the inevitable mortification at the hands of hospital staff: try being an hiv positive heart patient at the local ward! Try find an oncologist who will treat an hiv positive cancer patient, especially if anal cancer is the diagnosis: they all know you've been fucked in the ass! My apologies for the language, but still true to the spirit of, here we go again, Herve Guibert's own diary. Do we really understand how little 45mils is in today's advertising world? That video ad I saw on Hispanic television was very nicely done: I just found out! Do you know your status? could easily be dubbed into English. Blast it everywhere! Test! Test! Test! And please, don't forget to treat! 45 bils to the US is more like it! Oh yeah, nice dreaming ... they did retreat Bernie's leftover billion ... that would be nice too!

I totally agree, and while someone mentioned waiting for phase 2, it seems to me that we should assume that people are going to watch only one of these ads...each campaign should stand on its own merit. This isn't a book series! If I only saw one ad, and it was that first one, I would find interest in the fact that different types of people were shown, but would probably forget it within 5 minutes. Yawn.

Hey Peter, OK, the "Every nine minutes" wasn't that exciting, but at least it didn't mention Africa and it demonstrates the Obama administration is trying to return the focus on the AIDS crisis here in the U.S. Also, it did pretty much run the gamut of people, so it hinted that everyone is at risk. There did seem to be a dearth of Asian and Native Americans, though. Regarding the smoking ad, I remember hearing about it on the Today Show. But Matt Lauer gives me such gas, I shut off the TV as he was going on about how dreadful it was to make a child cry for a TV spot. The ad is quite powerful and Lauer is, as usual, full of manure. As far as future prevention plans go, the ASO here in my neck of the woods has done some targeted, and I think very good, ads targeting the Hispanic hetero community. Another agency nearby is doing targeted awareness campaigns aimed at Navajo and other Native Americans. Perhaps the Obama people might look at what is already being done and then determine how to build future prevention campaigns.

It's not the most exciting ad, Peter, but the focus of phase one really is just to raise awareness. I'll save judgement till after the later phases are revealed. Steve Ps. I'd also like to point out that that anti-smoking advert is from Australia - the accent and quit.org.au (au being for Aus) are a dead (pardon the pun) giveaway. We have a proud history of good public education campaigns on a number of issues. Good on NYC for picking it up though.

I agree, probably the "morphing" effect took up a lot of the budget, lol. That stop smoking ad(interpreted for NYC)is mesmerizing.
