The case should be about the assault not about the woman's life story. Her life is nobody's business. What he did was wrong period.

Regan, What irony that our voice is unified behind a name so close to Reagan on the 30th anniversary where Reagan did nothing for 8 years and Kock (a member of the LGBT community himself) looked on with mysterious disdain and indifference. So it comes as no surprise that the Roy Cohn like editors and owners of the Post, namely, Mr. Murdoch, should take the lead in stigmatizing the woman for her being a poor immigrant and being a widwo-even if she got this she probably got it from her husband (and not that it matters-actually I am showing another level of stigma-the famous-HOW DID YOU GET IT MD line that makes me want to throttle them!) but if she worked in such a fine hotel she must look and be healthy and on meds and thus as you say not likely to pass it on, but if ever a person deserved to have it passed on to him, a rapist might qualify. Now not to be vindictive but he has zero chance of getting the virus even if she is POZ but without a great DA you could just see the powers turning on this woman and she will need alll the help she can get. I suggest if she is POZ the community take up some funds to take out an ad against this outrageous behaviour by the "so called media" and demand a retraction and a full explanation as to its relevancy in the article. If "AIDS" still sells papers maybe the editor and Mr. Murdoch would volunteer to get it and see what living with it is like, after all anything to sell a paper. What next put the maid in prison for wantonly passing HIV in a consensual rape act. This guy has done this to more than 4 other women in France who have come forward-that is the evidence they need to focus on. Money and power will always trump poverty and sickness.. This is the irony in the the sickness is more in the actions of people like this in the media than it is in us. We could all live our lives pretty well if not for this daily barrage of negativity about what is no different than a flu, cancer, or any other immunse disorder people contracxt in their lives. No one is GUILTY for being sick, they deserve compassion and dignity, not finger pointing and hearsay. Shame on the Post (sort of redundant?) BP-NY/Boston

Thank you Regan for covering this topic regarding the IMF Chief. There are so many problems with this article. I originally found the article through a news feed that sensationalized the issue of "sound byting" the cdc's report of transmission. I was appalled. But mostly, that it focused on the fact that the accuser may have to fear contracting HIV. It really perpetuates the stigma that we try so hard to fight. Surely,I will be writing a letter directly to the NY Post with regards to their nefarious reporting. Rachel Sharkey

It makes me think of what Larry Kramer said in your interview..."we are hated! H A T E D." this proves that the stigma is alive and well. see, the problem is that everyone is so "happy" that we have the drugs that keep us alive, but what about the stigma associated with the virus?? there isn't a pill for that. this story shows the paranoia still associated with HIV. When will it end? What can we do?? If people think Kramer is wrong or being melodramatic, maybe they should take a pill that will make them get some intelligence and compassion. and stop writing articles like this.

I was appauled by the story as well. What does her HIV status have to do with the fact that this man may have attacked her? They also ran a clip on Fox 5 News yesterday morning regarding this...Funny I did not see any of them covering the AIDS Walk on Sunday......

thank you Regan for taking the NY POST to task for its despicable headline and article content. i cringed when i read the article, and have already called the NY Post and told them how despicable it was to try and influence public opinion with inflammatory reporting buy suggesting the maid was HIV+ because of the address of where she lived. the person who answered the phone told me "Her name wasn't printed, only her address." which leads me to believe the Post knows the victims name. i am a reporter for a weekly newspaper in rural New Mexico and know how important truth in reporting is. luckily for me my editor is also my mother, so when she edits my work i know it is to make what i've written better understandable for the average reader. keep up the good work!!!
