Red Scarves Across the River

Originally launched in London, the Red Scarf movement seeks to end the stigma and raise awareness around HIV. AIDS Project Rhode Island (APRI) has brought this worldwide movement to the Ocean State – both honoring those in our community that we’ve lost and supporting those currently living with and affected by HIV/AIDS in Rhode Island on World AIDS Day. Each year APRI installs all sponsored and donated red scarves across the PVD Pedestrian Bridge on December 1st to provide a visual reminder of those lost in Rhode Island to the HIV/AIDS epidemic since 1983. Also on display will be panels provided by AIDS Quilt Rhode Island. The event offers a way for our community to come together in an artistic show of support for APRI in a safe, impactful way. Scarves will be displayed from 7 am to 1 pm, with a speaking program at noon. The impactful speaking program features individuals living with HIV and community partners.
