More than 25,000 people every year access free HIV testing and STI screening, harm reduction and syringe access and disposal, community engagement, and health navigation services. Position Overview:
The Benefits Coordinator is a resource to support persons seeking to access to various health services with a special emphasis on HIV Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP). This position will support people in understanding and applying for public and private benefits, accessing medical care and medications, and maintaining benefits already received.  This position will be an integral part of the sexual health team. All Benefits Coordinators serve as HIV testing counselors in the clinic, Covered CA Certified Enrollment Counselors, Notary Publics, and PrEP Assistance Program (PrEP-AP). 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Benefit Counseling: Provide counseling and advocacy to clients in need of assistance accessing PrEP, nPEP, Interim ART, and comprehensive medical care.  Provide information and referral to connect client to appropriate services.
  2. Coordination and Enrollment: Coordinate client participation in benefits programs such as Patient Assistance Programs, Medi-Cal, Medicare, Healthy San Francisco, Covered CA, PrEP-AP and other insurance programs. Also will consult with counterparts in other regions to learn from their experience and drive regional and national solutions to recurrent challenges.
  3. Documentation:  Maintain concise documentation and service notes according to departmental standards; including chart notes, access timelines, and refill timelines. 
  4. Collaboration: Work with nursing team to ensure proper treatment and follow up.   
  5. Quality Improvement: Monitor and evaluate programming for continuing quality improvement, achievement of contractual requirements, and compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements. 
  6. HIV/STI Testing Counseling: Provide client centered HIV/STI counseling services.
  7. Adherence and Access Counseling: Conduct phone and email based follow up and referrals to ensure access to appointments and medication.
  8. Education and Outreach: Serve as a community leader in PrEP advocacy and education through community talks, workshop facilitation, boot camp trainings, shadowing partner sites, and outreach to target groups.
