TAG seeks skilled, experienced, and proactive Development Manager who will bring a new level of dynamic, hands-on reorganization and strategic new thinking to its fundraising efforts and operations.

The Development Manager (DM) will oversee a solid development program for TAG, whose annual budget is $3 million per year, and to strategically expand TAG’s fundraising to meet the changing landscape of financial support for the HIV and related diseases research and advocacy sectors. The successful candidate will manage TAG’s annual fundraising campaign, major gifts, annual benefit, smaller events, and print and online appeals. Working with the board’s Development Committee, the Development Manager (DM) will report to and work closely with the Executive Director to maximize revenue for the organization. The DM will work closely with TAG staff, Board, Development and Finance Committees to develop an annual fundraising plan and implement the necessary actions needed to meet TAG’s program operating costs. The position is based in New York City.

The Development Manager will have a robust work ethic, strategic thinking, self-direction, the ability to work in collaboration with both tact and diplomacy, and strong interpersonal skills, a track record in raising nonprofit funds, and an understanding of and commitment to the HIV and healthcare sectors. Strong verbal and written communications skills are requisite.

The Development Manager may supervise an additional staff position, the Grants Officer, later in 2020.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include developing and implementing a strategic plan and annual work plan for fundraising , cultivation of new and existing donors through development and execution of an overall development plan, major and existing donor strategies, managing prospective donor pipeline, foundation research, donor database management, planned giving, grant and gift stewardship, and maintaining accurate and up-to-date information on donors, institutional funding opportunities, and prospects.

  • Work with TAG staff and Board build a strong, contemporary strategic case for investing in TAG, deepen relationships, expand the donor base, and increase year over year giving;
  • Develop fundraising strategies, plans, and materials to help ensure renewals of current funding and identify new opportunities and grow individual giving, leadership giving, foundation and corporate grants and sponsorships, planned giving, and events including TAG’s annual benefit, the Research in Action Awards;
  • Connect with and build on knowledge of other not-for-profit organizations with similar support bases for potential joint efforts and to expand donor cadres;
  • Solicit contributions and seek partnership opportunities for major gifts from individuals and institutions;
  • Monitor new and existing opportunities at grant-making foundations, corporations and federal and state grants; develop relationships to increase the percentage of grants awarded; and write grant proposals as needed;
  • Create and implement the yearly development calendar delineating annual giving appeals, development publications, special events, social media promotions, marketing pieces, and stewardship;
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with board members and continue to involve them in identifying, establishing, and advancing relationships with ongoing and prospective donors;
  • Work with TAG’s administrator to ensure prompt acknowledgement of all gifts and that donor information is captured for future outreach and performance analysis;
  • Establish and monitor metrics to track the effectiveness of fundraising goals and engagement efforts;
  • Implement mechanism to track and ensure monthly reporting for all received gifts;
  • Partner with TAG communications and program staff to ensure that donors, grantors and email recipients receive integrated and appropriate messaging, including mail and online appeals and an annual report for donors.
