Job Description

The Manager of HIV Prevention leads AltaMed Health Services’ HIV Prevention, Education, Behavior Change, Outreach and Testing Activities. He/she reports to the Director of HIV Services and in close collaboration with other Division Managers. Further, this position serves as AltaMed Health Services’ authority on outreach, individual and group level interventions and program promotion and development to Gay, Bisexual and Men Who Have Sex With Men in Los Angeles and Orange County. He/she will develop strong relationships with community partners and the IPA by developing a referral mechanism within our Rapid Response Team and developing a tracking mechanism for linkages to care.

 

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor of Arts Degree in social service field, human services or business administration required; Masters of Public Health Education preferred. 
  2. A minimum of 5 years experience in a community HIV Prevention program or human service-related field, such as social work, psychology, nursing, counseling or health education.
  3. Minimum three years management experience. Experience working in non-profit environment and working with government contacts desired.
  4. Experience working with budgets and HIV funding sources preferred.

Responsibilities

  1. Trains, monitors and evaluates performance of each direct report, according to the company’s policies and procedures. Makes recommendations for program and staff changes and improvements.
  2. Oversees the provision of Individual and Group Level HIV prevention intervention activities including assessment, development of individualized prevention plans of action, follow-up and referral activities.
  3. Together with the Prevention team, identifies locations for program outreach. 
  4. Plans and oversees community outreach. 
  5. Ensures that HIV risk reduction counseling sessions during outreach are appropriate to the targeted population and ensures the collection of appropriate demographic information and identifies individuals at high-risk for HIV infection and ensures that these individuals are enrolled into prevention case management activities.
  6. Develops curricula and supervises the education of clients regarding prevention education through safer-sex demonstration and other promotional activities.
  7. Ensures that clients are assisted in the development of risk reduction goals and that follow-up with clients according to program protocols is occurring.
  8. Ensures that client contact is maintained with clientele to offer support and guidance to empower sustained risk reduction behavior change according to program protocols.  Monitors staff to ensure compliance to established program protocols.
  9. Ensures that appropriate referrals to other services offered by AltaMed and other community agencies including the direct linkage of individuals who are HIV positive and in need of clinic-based services.
  10. Conducts regular quality assurance activities and client satisfaction surveys.  Maintains community advisory board for program input.
  11. Ensures clear and current documentation in client files.
  12. Assists with the development and facilitation of educational workshops including developing workshop curricula.
  13. Conducts program staff meetings and participates in departmental and division staff meetings.
  14. Oversees the interaction with community gatekeepers to facilitate the development and adherence to outreach calendar.
  15. Represents AltaMed Health Services in various community planning meetings including the Prevention Planning Committee of LA County and the Los Angeles Commission on HIV Health Services.
  16. Ensures the maintenance of accurate activity logs and program reports and monitors and submits timely progress reports in addition to monitoring the grant’s HIV quality measures. 
  17. Works collaboratively with Grants Management and Development team to develop and submit proposals to expand HIV Prevention programming. 
  18. Performs other related duties as assigned.
