Overview

The mission of the annual LGBTQ Justice Fellowship is to fund a third-year law student to work in The GLBT Community Center of Colorado on an innovative, public interest law project that serves the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (“LGBTQ”) community. This Fellowship is designed to ensure that unmet legal needs in the LGBTQ community are addressed and prioritized on an ongoing basis, and that the next generation of legal advocates for the LGBTQ community develops the critical skills necessary to secure civil rights into the future.

Fellow Responsibilities

The LGBTQ Justice Fellowship is a community-focused fellowship designed to create entry points into the LGBTQ rights and justice fields and to enhance legal and advocacy capacity at The GLBT Community Center of Colorado.

Fellows gain hands-on advocacy experience by operating the day-to-day functions of The Center’s Legal Program, including making legal referrals and organizing legal clinics, conducting training and education on LGBTQ civil rights issues, representing The Center at monthly LGBT Bar Association meeting and supporting The Center and its programs with legal research. In addition, Fellows will work on cutting edge LGBTQ rights and justice projects of their choosing, particularly on projects affecting people of color and other marginalized communities.

Fellows will engage in a year-long program that includes mentoring, professional development, skills-based training, and networking opportunities. The Center will provide legal mentors to oversee the project and the Fellow, provide facilities, support and adequate resources as necessary to carry out the project.
