Purpose

The ARCW Dietitian will provide services to patients and clients in all 10 Wisconsin ARCW locations (from their office in downtown Milwaukee) and also support the Wisconsin House daily meal program. The dietitian will provide consultation to patients seeking services through the pantry and medical clinics. The role of this position is to assess the dietary and health needs of patients; provide advice and counsel patients and providers through the promotion of nutrition; and serve as a resource to expand nutrition services to patients with unmet dietary needs and other chronic health conditions.

Description

1. Meet with patients during Medical Center appointments. Counsel patients on basic rules of good nutrition, healthy eating habits, and nutrition monitoring to improve their quality of life. Advise patients on nutritional principles, dietary plans and diet modifications, and food selection and preparation. Consult with physicians and health care personnel to determine nutritional needs and diet restrictions of patient or client according to their health needs.
2. Plan and conduct training programs in dietetics & nutrition for patients connected to the Nutrition as Medicine program, ARCW clinics and pantries and for those that reside at the Wisconsin House facility. Coordinate a statewide training schedule with appropriate staff.
3. Incorporate the ‘in-care’ messaging at the time of service. Assist patients and clients in connecting to case management, pharmacy or scheduling of a visit with the clinic or other needed services at ARCW or in the community. Collaborate with other Medical and Social Services staff to ensure appropriate access to care by clients
4. Assess the nutritional needs of the residents at the Wisconsin House. Review diet restrictions and current health plans to develop and implement dietary-care plans and provide nutritional counseling.
5. Review monthly meal plans created by the Wisconsin House Cook to ensure meals meet any/all dietary and nutritional needs. Advise on the development of menus as needed. Inspect meals prepared by the Wisconsin House Cook for conformance to prescribed diets and standards of palatability and appearance.
6. Review ordering at each of the ARCW pantry locations to ensure that each pantry is providing high quality, healthy and balanced food appropriate for making well rounded meals. Provide feedback and guidance to the Director of Food Services as appropriate and with budget in mind.
7. Develop a curriculum and prepare manuals, visual aids, course outlines, and other materials used in teaching.
Promote healthy foods, especially those that are affordable or found on the pantry shelves, by sharing recipes with patients. Offer cooking and/or tasting demonstrations to patients as space and audience allows. Accompany demonstration with a nutritional message.
8. Plan and conduct training programs in dietetics & nutrition for food pantry staff, social services and health-care personnel.
9. Maintain timely and accurate documentation of services rendered to statewide clients through Pantry operations in the electronic EPIC & Provide Enterprise databases. Ensure timely and accurate daily production records.
10. Develop and maintain relationships with community partners and vendors that will increase customer satisfaction and improve service provision, and aid in food acquisition.
11. Through workshops, conferences and self-study, maintain knowledge of nutritional standards. Attain and maintain a high level of knowledge of appropriate food safety, food handling and distribution issues in accordance with respective codes and regulations set forth by licenses, zoning requirements, ADA, civil rights, and other requirements. Ensure implementation of needed safety precautions; maintain Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) standards, monitor critical control points, and keep records as required.
12. Attend Social Services & Medical meetings and in-services as appropriate.
Implement special projects and other duties as assigned by the Director of Food Services or Senior Management.

Requirements

Registered Dietitian (Dietician)
Knowledge of Food Services food acquisition, distribution and/or food bank operation preferred. Experience in residential facility meal program management preferred.
Knowledge of HIV disease and its impact individuals and the community preferred.
Valid State Driver’s License
