The HIV/AIDS epidemic is not over, especially in Black communities. Would you like to be a part of the solution? The Black AIDS Institute (BAI) is looking for a passionate and self-motivated Training and Capacity Building Coordinator to help us end the HIV epidemic in Black America. The Training & Capacity Building (TCB) Coordinator is an essential part of the Black AIDS Institute’s national team. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Training and Capacity Building, the TCB Coordinator increases the capacity of public health organizations, health departments, and partner agencies to understand, engage, and utilize innovative strategies and science to effectively respond to HIV in Black communities across the U.S. This position supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of all the Institute’s trainings and capacity building programs, to include the African American HIV University (AAHU).

The ideal candidate must have a demonstrated commitment to anti-racist, anti-oppression work that fights for the core values of social justice and equity, as well as have a strong work ethic, demonstrated success in program planning and implementation, and thrive in an unapologetically Black work environment.

This is a full-time, hourly position.  Some weekend and evening hours will be required. Travel may be required.

Salary Range: $46,258 - $55,000

Position Specific Duties/Responsibilities: 


  • Coordination ofAAHU Cohort Programs, to include the Science & Treatment College, Community Mobilization College, and theHIV Workforce Certificate Program.
    • Assist the SeniorTCB Manager inAAHU recruitment and program implementation efforts, to include:
      • Tracking applicants’ progress throughout the application process
      • Facilitating the production of module content
      • Tracking cohort scholars’ progress throughout programs
      •  Coordinating cohort graduations
    • Assist the SeniorTCB Manager in engagingAAHU alumni, to include:
      • Drafting monthly AAHU alumni newsletters
      • Drafting regular Facebook group content
      • Updating alumni contact information
      • Coordinating alumni reunion activities
    • Coordination of Training Capacity & Building Services
      • Assist in the development of low, medium, and high-intensity curricula for adult learners’ trainings
      • Maintain updated presentations on predetermined HIV-related topical issues
    • Monthly Coordination of Brown Bag LunchWebinars
      • Align the monthly schedule with important HIV-related conferences, events, and observances
      • Develop and maintain a list of potential speakers    
      • Draft correspondence for interactions with speakers and audience
      • Coordinate the marketing/promotion process with Communications staff
      • Record each event & submit recordings to Communications staff
    • Coordination of Health Department & Ending theHIV Epidemic (EHE) Processes
      • Assist in the technical assistance outreach and follow-up with Health Departments & EHE jurisdictions
      • Assist in the development of Health Department & EHE-related projects (e.g., needs assessments, training materials, etc.)
    • Coordination of Broad Information Dissemination
      • Ensure the AAHU webpage and its subpages are updated regularly
      • Track metrics for AAHU-related events, webpages, advertisements, and social media

Preferred Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or related field
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience related to health equity, social justice, and/or HIV or other infectious diseases; a combination of paid, volunteer, and academic experience will be considered
  • Demonstrated understanding of the structural and cultural issues related to HIV/AIDS prevention and care among Black communities, including women and people who identify as LGBTQIA+
  • Experience in delivering online and/or in-person trainings to adult participants
  • Experience working with or within healthcare and/or non-profit organizations is strongly desired
  • Ability to travel significantly (up to 50% travel time required)
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook and Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Slides, etc.)

  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication, public speaking and presentation skills
  • Exemplary ability to work independently and accurately in a high-paced, deadline-oriented environment
  • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse identities, including Black Americans and persons identifying as LGBTQIA+ 

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

  • Ability to read, write and converse in English
  • Ability to communicate efficiently with staff, stakeholders, consultants, and vendors
  • Ability to remain calm and composed under stress
  • Ability to perform bending, lifting, grasping, fine hand/eye coordination, pushing/pulling, and/or prolonged sitting/standing activities
  • Ability to respond to telephones and other auditory stimulation
  • Quantitative/mathematical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, standard measurements)
  • Ability to evaluate/interpret information and make independent judgments/decisions
