The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has renewed $35.8 million in grants for housing programs that assist low-income people living with HIV/AIDS. The funding is awarded through HUD’s Housing Opportunities for People With AIDS (HOPWA) Program.

The three-year renewed grants go to 31 local programs across the country (see the list below), according to a HUD press release. The funding will help more than 2,856 people and their families with housing and related HIV services. The press release only mentioned grantees that are being renewed; it does not state that the list includes all grantees throughout the HOPWA program.

Launched in 1992, HOPWA grants funds to cities, states, local communities and nonprofit organizations.

“We recognize the importance stable housing can have on a person living with HIV/AIDS,” said HUD Secretary Ben Carson. “Working closely with our partners nationwide, these grants will provide the critical housing and care they need to manage their health.”
