I thank you for this information as a Peer Educator. Anal sex M/F is always a part of my presentations/discussions.
I like Anna Forbes in her persuit to help in HIV prevention. I noticed also that bowel movments have the same problems where patients do not talk to Doctors about such and expect the runs when taking ARVs, which I uses a good bowel movment to gage my health, yes, if I have the runs then my diet or pills are not for me. My concern with microbocites is the side effects and toxic effects as with ARV's. Is their any research on natural microbices, such as Neam Oil or other natural theories?
Hey Bob - one of those butts is that of a lady, if I'm not mistaken!
Nice article, good to see that it is balanced in terms of the risk to females too. Unfortunately the photos in the print issue are just of men, reinforcing an untrue stereotype.
Why is there not even one mention of HPV in this article? which we know can lead to anal cancer, especially highly prevalent in HIV+ MSM ?
Dr. Richard Ferri
Bravo! As an HIV specialist I have been performing anal pap smears on all HIV positive patients for the last several years...male, female, gay, straight, whatever. The number of cases of pre-cancerous lesions and cells I am finding is mind boggling. If you are HIV positive you need regular rectal paps and exams no matter what your gender or your sexual practices. HPV, the most worrisome virus, can be transmitted anally by simple self inoculation! Get checked!
