I found your story very uplifting and well thought out thanks for your story you are an insperation to the gay community. Clyde
Thank you for sharing your story!
What a GREAT story! I was diagnosed in July, 2006 in Dr. Bailey's office in Vestal, NY, He gave me 3 months to live! He was WRONG! I have had 25 gay friends die if AIDS in Houston. At Portland's 2014 AIDS,, I met and walker with Governor John Kitzhaber AND 8400 Walkers for 2 1/2 miles! I cried EVERY step, not for myself, but for THEM! We earned $412,000 for Cascade AIDS Project! I have to use a walker, which I call Roger Walker. My name is Roger Walcker!
Well you are ok now, living your life as we all must creating a circle of support and that's all that matters. Very touching and thank you so much for sharing your story Heath.
Heath has a way of just cutting through the nonsense and leaving anyone reading (or listening) in a positive mood. As far as people I admire in the HIV community, I'd have to say Magic Johnson and Greg Louganis. They were diagnosed before inhibitors and they are still alive! THAT gives me hope in my own life. Knowing at lease one person who is positive may seem like misery seeking company, but hearing their story(s) can often do more to boost one's t-cells and general attitude for a future.
I understand, how you felt.I havebeen Pos.for 18 years. The only thing,is that,I havent ask noone to except me.I had to do it all on my own.Me,being Gay,all of my life,And ,noone to express my feelings to.Now,iam a happy person.Living,my life to the Max.Stay Focused,Buddy.
What a great article - so brave and honest. I particularly love Heath's motto. I am a teacher and try to teach this basic concept to my young students all the time when they complain that so-and-so said this or did that. I tell them that they cannot control what others say or do, but they CAN how they let the words or actions of others affect them.

I wish I could meet you I too am from Missouri and now live in Nashville - positive only 2 years - lived in NY for 26 years and became positive shortly after moving here. I admittedly have been lost as of late with the loss of a parent and the search for me again. Your article gave me a little bit more strength today than yesterday. I like your motto - 10 percent what happens to you and the rest your attitude. Your story gets to the real heart of being positive and social stigma. Thank you
