As of 2008, about 8,000 people were living with HIV in Nevada, according to a report released August 17 by state health officials, as reported by kolotv.com.

The report noted that Nevada ranked 24th nationally for the number of cumulative HIV/AIDS cases in 2007, with 427 new HIV infections reported in the state that year.

In response to these statistics, the Nevada State Health Division will refocus efforts on HIV tests, education and ways to improve the lives of people already living with the virus.
