pretty sure Publix isn't self-insured which means they specifically wrote coverage out of the insurance package. Why would a company do that you ask? IMHO it's about the stigma and the money.

I love the way this ridiculous HIV mag tosses in the actual offense against HIV+ people as an afterthought. Poz, for the LAST TIME, those of us who are actually HIV positive are the ones who are still going to be reading this magazine in 2 years, and we DO NOT CARE ABOUT PrEP. We are NOT INFECTIOUS, despite this magazine's best efforts to misrepresent us as such. The average HIV- gay man wouldn't drop trou if we were on fire. FIGURE OUT YOUR CORE AUDIENCE (hint, its NOT the DDF crowd).

The only way to eradicate HIV is to prevent its spread. By refusing preventative measures, Publix is contributing to the spread of the virus. If this company covers birth control or other sexual treatments (the papilloma vaccine, STD testing, etc) then they should offer PrEP to employees who are concerned about getting HIV. By not doing so, Publix has basically said their employees are not important and are replaceable.

This company should not be expected to pay for PREP. Healthcare provision is expensive enough already. One way to go would be to ask all workers if they are willing to contribute each month to allow the provision of PREP. Otherwise PREP should be provided in exceptional cases only.
