Shawn, I still wear my ribbon on December 1, and I keep one on my jacket the entire month. I wear it for Jimmy, and for George, and for David, and for Ricky, and for Howard, and for Rudolph, and for Rock, and for Robert, and for so many others we've lost. Sadly, few ask about the ribbon when I wear it. I suspect they either are weary of them (there are ribbons for everything these days) or they know what it's for and don't want to discuss it. Often, the few who do ask have no idea that there's a World AIDS day or an AIDS Awareness Month. Welcome to our world.
I noticed this too, in the small amount of the telecast I saw. I remember watching Steve in the movie Parting Glances released in 1986 which was one of the first American films to address HIV/AIDS. This was one of Steve's first major film roles and he was great in his portrayal of the character "Nick". I know that being one of the first films/documentaries I watched on HIV/AIDS, the story line and acting has remained with me even in the current day. Kudo's to Steve Buscemi for including the red ribbon with his fabulous outfit. Yes, whilst I like diamonds and gold, the red ribbon has to be the standout accessory of the night. I know that's what wowed me. It's a real shame the Hollywood and it's many of it's superstars have determined that a red ribbon is no longer fashionable, yet a red carpet is.
