Two beat-down jazz musicians (Tupac Shakur and Tim Roth) decide to kick their heroin habits because their lives are getting too, well, scary. But desperate as they may be to get into detox, Roth and Shakur cannot receive public assistance on an emergency basis unless they have HIV. When one of the characters admits that he has already tested positive, the film takes off.

Gridlock’d has some stellar acting, and the subtle elegance of the late Shakur’s performance outshines the eerie halo that hangs over him. This exceptional film leaves the audience to ponder a question familiar to PWAs: “What next?”
