So apparently a South African pastor caused some panties and jockstraps to get in a bind when he suggested that Jesus has HIV.  He was just trying to get across the idea that Jesus empathized with the sick, that he would have viewed HIV like any other medical condition were he alive today.

The sermon and uproar surrounding proves that, in this day and age, HIV is still viewed differently.  Think about it- if this were a “Jesus had lupus” speech, would anyone outside of that church have heard about it?  We still have a long way to go.

Positively Yours,

Thanks to everyone for the heartfelt comments on the Ryan White article I wrote in this month’s issue of Poz! If you haven’t read it, check it out here. There’s also a brilliant article on how homophobia is being used in the church, and how that puts gay teens at a higher risk for HIV infection.

Gwenn and I are trying to win a Pepsi Refresh grant to educate teenagers about sexual health and HIV and we are way behind in votes. You can vote online each day AND text 102299 to PEPSI (73774).  Top 10 ideas get funded! Best way to help is to click below and receive a daily email reminder from now until voting closes on September 30.
